French Onion Soup

A tasty tradition made gluten free. My French onion soup is a snap to make and will impress with its bistro styling.

Servings: 4

Level: Average

 

Ingredients:

1/2 cup unsalted butter

3 tablespoon olive oil

4 cups thinly sliced sweet onions

4 cans of (10.5) beef broth

2 tablespoons dry sherry

1 cup red wine

1 teaspoon Pamela's All Purpose Gluten Free Flour (Featured Products). Can substitute for regular flour. 

1 teaspoon dried thyme

salt and pepper to salt

slices of Schar's Gluten Free White Bread (Featured Products). Can substitute for regular bread. 

slices of Gruyere cheese

slices of provolone

1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

 

Directions: 

1. Melt butter with olive oil in stock pot. Add onions and turn the heat to low-medium.

2.Stir onions until tender and  translucent about 30 minutes.

3.Add sherry and wine. Let it simmer until the alcohol smell is gone. For about 20 minutes

4.Add broth,thyme, salt and pepper. Simmer for another 30 min.

5. Add the teaspoon of flour

6.While waiting turn on the broiler. 

7. Ladle soup into oven safe serving bowls. Place one slice of bread on each serving bowls. Top it with some gruyere cheese, provolone cheese and grated parmesan cheese. 

8. Put it under the broiler and turn it on.
